Vallejo Desert Rust Pigment is crafted for creating realistic weathering and corrosion effects on vehicles, armor, structures, and dioramas. This finely processed earth and iron oxide pigment is ideal for simulating rust tones found in dry, arid environments, as well as the buildup of dust, dirt, and oxidation caused by age and exposure.
The high level of micronization allows the pigment to disperse smoothly in water, acrylic mediums, or turpentine, making application effortless across different surfaces. It can be used dry for subtle rust dusting, or fixed with Matte Medium for more enduring finishes. When additional blending time is needed, Glaze Medium allows for natural-looking streaking, run-offs, and shaded transitions around worn metal, joints, and textured surfaces.
When used with Vallejo’s Water & Stone range, Desert Rust becomes even more versatile. Transparent Water creates oily or stained effects, while Sandy Paste builds up textured, layered rust, heavy soil, and corroded metal. All pigments in this line are non-toxic and packaged in 30 ml child-safe pots, with weight varying from 17–39 grams depending on pigment density.
